The Best PS4 Games For Women
PlayStation 4 has quickly become the go-to console for gamers whether you're looking for exclusives, high-quality multi-platform games, or smaller indie titles. The PlayStation 4 library has a little of everything to offer, and the list continues to grow with each passing month. PlayStation 4 is home to some amazing titles across all genres, whether you're looking for shooters or puzzle games, there's bound to be something on this list that will keep you entertained. This list has something for everyone and is a great jumping-off point if you're looking to get into new gaming worlds or just want to play some more story-driven experiences that have less intense action (but still plenty of it!).
While this list isn't exhaustive, I've compiled five of the best PlayStation 4 titles to help you make an informed decision should you be considering adding any of these games to your PlayStation 4 game collection. The Best PS4 Games for Women list is meant to highlight great games with playable female protagonists but also includes games with other strong female characters where the lead character is not the only option.
Some of these games may have a few instances of violence and strong language, but nothing too graphic for young teens and beyond. All reviews are from Metacritic.com or GameRankings.com and all ratings are out of a possible 10 points unless otherwise noted.
So if you're looking for your next PlayStation 4 game, check out these awesome picks! They are all available on Amazon so check them out before they're gone!
How To Choose PS4 Games For Female Gamers
Sure, you could pull a random PS4 game from the shelf and play it, but if you want to get your money's worth out of a title, choose wisely. There are a ton of PlayStation 4 titles with female protagonist options and more games will likely include this in the future, but here are a few tips to sift through the noise and find the best PS4 game for women.
It may sound obvious, but sometimes we get caught up in the hype, only to purchase a game that looks (and sounds) great in reviews and then turns out to be only average at best. It's better to wait for reviews or play it yourself than buy it on impulse.
If you love fighting games but hate sports titles, you're not going to enjoy Madden regardless of your gender. If you're a fan of puzzle games, get one from that genre instead of picking up MLB 16 or NHL 17.
Sites like Metacritic and GameRankings often provide helpful aggregate scores for gamers to make informed buying decisions. While this isn't perfect, it's usually better than basing your decision on a single review. Remember that not all sites have the same taste as you do and some people aren't going to agree with the consensus.
If a game caught your eye but there's an M rating for violence or strong language, make sure it's appropriate for you or whoever will be playing.
Play What Other People Recommend To You!
This seems counterintuitive because you're looking for the best PS4 game for women rather than something that everyone has already played, but sometimes just trying out a different type of game is all someone needs to get hooked. One game may lead you to love other titles in that genre or just help broaden your horizons.
If none of these suggestions appeal to you, then take your time looking at the PlayStation 4 library and pick out something that you know will be enjoyable for you. The answer is out there! Just think about what kind of games interest you and you'll find a PS4 game that's perfect for you in no time.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is for anyone who has played Tomb Raider and enjoyed it. Be warned that it isn’t for everyone: The Tomb Raider trilogy is known for asking the player to reflect on all the buildings, bodies, animals, nature, etc. that they have destroyed along the way to the end of the series. If that’s not your thing, you’ve been warned!
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a PS4 game for women because it is female-friendly. Lara Croft is the main character, and she is a young woman with a simple albeit tragic past. She finds out all of her strengths throughout the game, and you can play her scaling cliffs and killing private military personnel. It also attacks the sexist themes that were present in the past Tomb Raider games.

Overwatch is an insanely diverse first-person shooter. The proportion of its women players are more than double all other first-person shooters. Five million women play Overwatch because of the wide range in female protagonists and creative ways to kill. Most women can agree- it’s way more fun to play a first-person shooter if you can kill them from dropping bombs or giant gorillas.
Additionally, many female gamers don’t like the realistic war-like first-person shooters, and Overwatch steers clear of that. They also provide a unique color palette that doesn’t evoke traditional conventional war colors.

This game is excellent for women because it includes a lot of tough and cool females as protagonists, including Clementine (the protagonist of Season Two) who is voiced by Melissa Hutchison. Clementine is the only protagonist who is active in all three seasons.

Look, this game is one of the best examples of how to craft a character of African heritage and female identity into a video game. It takes a mixed-race woman in 18th Century New Orleans, Aveline du Grandpre, and creates a fun and exciting game.
Assassin’s Creed III: Remastered also just won an award for Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing from the Writer’s Guild of America, as well as having an award-winning soundtrack already on its belt. Women will love the relatability of Aveline du Grandpre, and people of color will love that she represents their identities. Keep in mind that this game is all about towing the line between antagonist and protagonist, and it should be essential to recognize that before playing.

This game creates a space for female leaders, and you see that early on in the game when Herald of Andraste gather advisors around an impressive war table to talk about the Inquisition’s plan. Four out of the five people at the table are women. This might seem small, but a lot of video games make a big deal about it, having the male character make a comment about being advised by a bunch of wonderful women, or having it be a significant plot point. Dragon Age Inquisition doesn’t do that: and the subtleties of the womanhood in this video game are what eventually cause women to love it.
It’s also a great game, complete with amazing graphics and impressive storylines.
- Become the Inquisitor: Wield the power of the Inquisition over the course of an epic character-driven story, and lead a perilous journey of discovery through the Dragon Age.
- Bond with Legends: A cast of unique, memorable characters will develop dynamic relationships both with you and with each other.
- Discover the Dragon Age: Freely explore a diverse, visually stunning, and immersive living world.
- Change the World : Your actions and choices will shape a multitude of story outcomes along with the tangible, physical aspects of the world itself.
- Play Your Way : Completely control the appearance and abilities of your Inquisitor, party of followers, outposts, and strongholds. Decide the makeup of your Inquisition forces and your own style of combat.
