Most Anticipated Games In 2018

When talking about games, it’s hard to top up what 2017 had to offer, with names such as Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), Injustice 2, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Gravity Rush, What Remains of Edith Finch and others making it a hard act to follow. Nonetheless, now we can agree that the dust has settled, and a new generation of the most anticipated games for 2018 games are ready to take the stage and flourish -we already have some promising titles which are guaranteed to peak your interest.

In other words, 2018 is quickly shaping up to be a worthy successor to everything we’ve seen happen last year. In fact, a strong selection of games is going to take the stage within the next couple of months, including long-anticipated edge-captivating sequels and brand new games equipped with inciting stories we would have never before imaged.

To make it even better, due to some sharp controversies surrounding specific games which failed to live up to expectations, including season passes and impossible achievement hunting's which more than often prove fruitless, we’re looking forward to being offered a more consumer-friendly package which is mutually attractive to both parties. Of course, some of the following titles will gain more interest and traction than others, and some names have already dominated the conversation over the last couple of months. Yes, after all, anticipation is at its peak, and trailers and spoiler videos are only adding to the unbearable seduction felt by players worldwide.

Metro: Exodus

If you have ever wanted a psychological thriller able to combine deadly combat with horror-rich explorations, Metro: Exodus might just be the game you’re looking for. The immersive story creates a terrifying dystopian landscape for any player looking to sneak their way through a land filled with deadly creatures that are looking to rip you to shreds. Alternatively, you can use your shooting abilities to launch yourself on the map, delving into and crossing paths with even more beasties that want to go toe to toe with you.

There is a chilling atmosphere that will send chills down your spine, and this survival horror-inspired game is more than a simple post-apocalyptic world. Instead, you'll be faced with a physical and psychological journey that this time will move away from the subway stations where each drop of water was a reason to do a 360-degree view while holding your tail between your legs.

By contrast, the latest game looks to prioritize the upper world landscape and shy away from the claustrophobic background that we have gotten used to. Embracing FPS-like games and remastering all our preconceptions and stereotypes about what we should expect, Exodus is a highly anticipated game we’re looking forward to trying out in 2018.

Yes, you will still start out in a grim and grey wasteland in Moscow, Russia, where mutated beings are roaming the streets waiting for their next pray. However, you will eventually move away from Moscow and start to explore new and exciting locations that will give the game an entirely new feel –and you’ll be greeted by some previous face you’ve loved in Metro: Last Light ended.

All in all, this anticipated game is a first-person shooter that integrates an immersive horror story and combines it with stealth and skills elements of survival. The post-apocalyptic scenario set in the former Russia Federation follows the eerie tone given by the book from which it draws its inspiration –with hazards, hostile humans, and mutants alike. While this may sound scary, you will have a huge arsenal of weapons, crafting materials, and loot that will be at your disposal throughout the map.

With dynamic weather systems, sandbox environments, a day-night cycle, and a season-changing environment, there’s not much to not love about Exodus –especially as the story progresses and you form an emotional attachment to the characters involved.

Detroit: Become Human

Similar to director M. Night Shamalayn, game creator David Cage tends to either be viewed as misguided or unbelievably talented, honest, and brilliant. Having already created some controversial games that you may or may not have heard of (i.e., Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain); David Cage is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to innovation in the world of gaming stories. We will have to wait and see if his next creation, Detroit: Become Human, will receive the critical acclaim that we believe his games deserve.

Detroit: Become Human

When it comes to the story-line, Become Human is a neo-noir sci-fi thriller which tells the story of a small group of androids that have had enough of our abusive human ways and are now rebelling against our society. For lovers of the sci-fi genre, it’s hard not to get excited about this possible futuristic scenario in which artificial intelligence can eradicate us. What makes this game unique is the idea that androids will develop the feelings and critical thinking needed to distinguish between good and evil –eliminating social injustice the way that we can't due to our strict laws and punishment systems.

It may be hard to not think of Blade Runner and the concept behind that game, but Detroit: Become Human features the brilliant narrative of the human-AI conflict, analyzing both sides of this struggle. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether or not Cage will win our heart over or stir up feelings of the need for morality and a more relevant fight for freedom. It's safe to say that Quantic Dream's next game has been on the horizon for a couple of years now.

We’re hoping that this tale of socially oppressed androids will strike a chord and deliver an ambitious look at our shortcomings and our inability to combat evil –even when it happens in our own homes. All in all, we’ll have a game that is decision-centric, in which you will be able to choose your own set of judgments, each one resulting in a multitude of possible scenarios and endings. There is no denying that Become Human is going to be incredibly intense, thought-provoking and entirely dazzling.

A Way Out

Directed by Josef Fares, one of the leading creative forces behind the immersive Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out is a title which is highly anticipated in 2018. The trailer left us gasping at the attractiveness and uniqueness of the main story-line, and if you haven’t played Brothers, you’re missing out. The game gave you control of two characters which could be manipulated either independently or simultaneously using the analogue. The end result is a game which shies away from easy routes to success but instead appeals to gamers who want something more challenging and different.

Featuring a rewarding platform of puzzles, likable and jokey characters, along with a heart-warming story that will win you over, A Way Out leans into the idea of telling a story –much like reading a perfect book. You can empathize with the characters, their feelings and their skills, feeling each one concurrently, and unlike Brothers, you now have hold of two people trying to escape from jail and live life as they can.

What makes A way Out unique is the way in which you need to use both characters in order to put your escape plan into action, relying on one character as much as on the other. In fact, the game might as well be considered a tale of why team play is essential throughout life –although there are some bloody and funny moments too. For example, one of the characters will need to distract a guard while the other one will analyse possible escape routes and how to make it happen. And yes, it will be even harder than it sounds, with some problems not being evident to the naked eye. The goal is to encourage critical thinking, creativity and an open-communication between two players –either over the internet or while sitting on the same couch.

All in all, A Way Out is an excellently introspective game which makes you constantly think, and it can be played by best friends, strangers, or even couples. Featuring an intriguing prospect, a unique handling of the story-line, and a different approach to the struggles of trying to break out of prison, A Way Out is more than worth a play!

Red Dead Redemption 2

Most gamers will attest that the original story which came out around eight years ago left people wanting more. And a lot more than anyone could have anticipated. Nonetheless, now the waiting has ended, and we’ll be able to see a continuation of the Red Dead saga –with a promise of a more enveloping and mesmerizing open world than what we had already seen. To add to this already captivating sign of hope, there’s the main story-line which sees the return of many familiar faces, including the well-loved John Marston. Hopefully, fans will get over the expectations that have been building over the course of these eight years and shy away from a frosty reception, especially considering that this is one of the most anticipated games to appear in 2018, with a market budget similar to a Marvel or DC movie.

If you’ve never heard of RDR, it’s time to dust off your console and bring out this Western movie-like hypnotic cinematic experience and give in the immersive and dynamic environment that the game has to offer, including one of the best single-player campaigns to have ever been created. We have high expectations after seeing the Red Dead Redemptions 2 trailer, which seems to hint to things we’ve so profoundly come to love from the original game, creating a reassuringly familiar feeling we can’t forget.

Red Dead Redemption 2

We wouldn’t be doing our gamer duty if we wouldn’t mention that RDR 2 has been accused of potentially becoming an aggressive means of profiting off the initial enthusiasm displayed by millions of players worldwide –now equipped with a weak story-line and multiplayer concept. Nonetheless, until disaster strikes or the world turns upside down, Red Dead Redemption 2 will remain one of the biggest titles that people are waiting for in 2018.

Anthem

Anthem is one of the most anticipated multiplayer action video games in 2018, and it appears that Electronics Arts and BioWare have truly outdone themselves, something which is quite apparent by looking at the trailers, game-play and exquisite attention to detail. Designed to fit players of Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Anthem is set in an open world environment in which you gain a third-person perspective –taking the role of a Freelancer, a group of people who willingly leave their civilization in the hopes of exploring the surrounding landscape and world.

Using customizable exosuits called Javelins, you will have to option to adapt your game-play according to your unique style –from superhuman abilities to a wide range of individual weapons and upgrades. Among the classes of Javelins, you can find two which were introduced during Microsoft's E3 2017 Conference. The first one is the Ranger, designed as a more balanced and all-around suit, whereas the Colossus is, as the name suggests, a large and heavy Armour created for lovers of tanking roles.

The overall exploration is set in an alien world which despite its beauty is filled with dangers and monsters that are far more dangerous and deadly than those presumably hiding in your closet or under the bed. This expansive and lush-green world created by BioWare embraces the concept of loot drops, independence to explore the map, upgrading exosuits and weapons, and most importantly, in-game events and squad-based challenges.

While the game is being discussed by the online community with intense dedication, there are those who are already shutting down the conversation due to their worry that it will suffer from “loot box syndrome”. This refers to the ability to redeem customizable virtual items in order to enhance your character’s skills (i.e., weapons, armor, avatar, and others). Nonetheless, the company has been prompt in responding to this apparent criticism, calming waters by uttering that they will not go down that route again. While there will be loot available in game, this will have a more cosmetic and enticing purpose, not affecting the overall game-play and your ability to enjoy the entire experience.

With the studio is moving away from single player narrative-driven RPGs for the first time in its history, Anthem is an open-world online shooter that shies away from everything we’ve come to know about BioWare. Nevertheless, there’s no need to worry, as we trust that the experience will be equally memorable, with the characters, stories, and the creative world they’ve built being worth of the upcoming release.

Featuring both single-player and co-operative multiplayer elements that are then shared in this world, you can find four of your most trusted friends and pave your way to success. Fight ruthless marauders and slaughter savage beasts that want to tear you apart –all while exploring the impressive ruins of an alien civilization that will alter your concepts and pre-disposed idea about what world-altering gaming is all about.

Crackdown 3

Fascinated by mayhem and destruction? Well, you’re in the right place, as Crackdown 3 is supposed to somewhat elegantly combine the two factors in an over-the-top action game that will entice lovers of big muscles and blowing up things. To further prove this point, the creators recruited Terry Crews as the primary face you can associate this game with, and the beefy actor is far from the best thing about this game.

Crackdown 3

In fact, what you should be expecting from this game is wreaking havoc across a stunning cityscape. The main problem is that the game was announced, then delayed, and published again, which can be viewed as a cause for concern in fans that undoubtedly want to get their hands on this product. Hopefully, the springtime will not only bring up nature’s beautiful life but also Crackdown 3, so that we can start crumbling and blowing stuff up.

Split into three main models (co-op, single player, and a multiplayer suite called Wrecking Zone); it’s safe to say that you’ll be able to waste away weeks and months demolishing everything from A to Z. It should also be noted that the troubled production is struggling to reach a consensus as to how indestructible the world will be –which is, after all, a significant element of the game and how you’re going to react to it.

And although we do understand that delays are frustrating and sometimes you want to throw in the towel, we can’t help but hope that these will result in a better-shaped game that won’t flop or break our hearts. Until then, all we can do is hold our breath.

Far Cry 5

The Far Cry franchise has forever kept us on the edge of our seats with their unique open world concepts and the mind-boggling storylines we are, at times, struggling to grasp fully. While there are many games which promote these worlds where you can freely roam around and explore, few genuinely go past the somewhat stale feeling of “been there, done that”.

By contrast, we often find ourselves still exploring and killing the bad guys in Far Cry 3, and there’s something special about games you just can’t stop playing. Far Cry 5 is no exception to that rule, nowadays integrating a more political and emotional part that makes the storyline even more compelling and attractive than the ones before. To top it all off, you also have a canine companion, and just like in Fallout 4, that makes all the difference in the world.

Oh, we know what you’re thinking: Far Cry 4 and Primal weren’t the best representations of what this franchise has to offer, but Ubisoft is trying to mix things up and move away from any prehistoric scenarios –returning to modern day America, in the city of Hope Country, Montana. Although this means shying away from exotic landscapes, there are still rich-green forests and plains that focus on domestic conflicts that could be happening right in the heart of the United States.

This also means that the narrative focus is no longer in a prehistoric world which we humans have managed to destroy but instead an open-ended approach that will make the entire experience even more immersive. The surrounding world will become the player’s biggest asset, as traps, the storyline, side missions, and animals will help you gain the upper hand in combat and skills.

We can’t help but love the fresh and new ideas behind Far Cry 5, bringing forward the sense of something we might be facing without our immediate knowledge –cults and religious fanatics that are the anchor of the series and facilitate the best type of psychopathic villains. Combine that with the co-op version of the game, and one of the most anticipated games for 2018 and you have yourself the ideal recipe for a weekend of non-stop killing, all packaged in an ambitious yet slightly controversial Far Cry game.

The Last of Us

The Last of Us is reminiscent of a grand thriller book that you want to savour yet can’t bring yourself to put down. Set five years after the original game the storyline brings Ellie in the centre of the post-apocalyptic combat adventure –a character that was once purely a sidekick and the one protected during the first part.

One of the main reasons why this game is so anticipated is because we don’t yet know much about it, which brings another element of mystery we’ve become accustomed to from the original game. The primary things we do know from developer Naughty Dog is that The Last of Us will be unbelievably violent and sharply detailed. There’s much that the trailer leaves to the imagination, but the few hints we have retained bring about the worlds “controversial”, “violent”, and “graphic” into mind. Nonetheless, we expect an elegant and beautiful balance of terror, suspense, and characters you are bound to either love or hate.  Whatever you do, make sure to first give the first game a go before jumping in the deep end –it’s an excellent way to realise what you’re in for, and the millions of converted fans are a pure statement of precisely that.

Well, we can’t say we’re any bit surprised, especially considering that the 2013 release brought on universal critical acclaim –ranging from the combat abilities, story and characters to the excellent immersiveness skills and visual representations of the game. All in all, The Last of Us is a terrifying exploration of abandoned cities which have been reclaimed by nature –all while the population was decimated by an unforgiving plague which has eradicated the most of the community, weapons, food, water, and other needed resources. Just remember, this game will not bring you much hope about a post-apocalyptic world.

God of War

God of War impressed its audiences a few years back, and after over-saturating the PlayStation library for a good while, there is a new and improved version bound to make your evenings and weekends a bit more interesting. The upcoming release offers its fans a more mature and all-around concept, all while still focusing on legends and myths that are bound to retain the visceral feud the game has become renowned for.

The sequel makes the entire idea of slashing gigantic monsters look even better and more entertaining than the previous game, with the creators trying to bring even more detail and interest to the components we know about the story. With an excellent combat feature, the new God of War shies away from the focus on blood and cleavages, instead opting for an immersive tale of fatherhood –becoming a more serious, sincere yet edgy version that hopefully won’t lose the charm that made the original game what it is. In other words, the upcoming God of War represents a more dramatic departure from the tone and design of the previous version. Featuring a more personal narrative, a sombre view on how deities should be viewed, new combat techniques and skills, these details contribute to the new direction that the series will be taking.

The action takes place years after the annihilation of the Olympian gods, and now Kratos is now living with Atreus, his son, in the hostile surroundings ruled by Norse gods. While initially Kratos lives governed by peace and serenity, which soon comes to an end once his part in the destruction of Olympus becomes known by those around –ending in a Godly plan to have him murdered. This scenario forces the main protagonist to flee alongside his son, and thus the adventure and thirst for survival begins.

10. Spider-Man

We’ve seen all the movies, we’ve played all of the games, and we can attest that it’s been a long time since the well-loved Spidey has gotten the spotlight in a video game. Of course, lovers of this wall-swinging superhero are going to be extremely excited, especially considering the trailers and short gameplay we’ve already seen so far.

When it comes to the storyline, we will have the geeky, yet kind-hearted Peter Parker tell his own story, set in the open world of modern-day New York City. The 23-year old is about to graduate from college, ready to become an internet at a laboratory, and after having been Spider-man for a whopping eight years, he wants to make his way into living a more regular and stable life.

The only problem? Crime never stops, and a gang called the “Inner Demons” shortly sets in New York. Their leader, an apparent philanthropist under the name Martin Li, aka Mister Negative, is the one who owns and operates F.E.A.S.T. homeless shelters, whom Aunt May happens to volunteer for. Played from a third-person perspective, gamers will finally get the chance to experience the feeling of being Spider-Man, using wall-crawling and web-slinging abilities to trap bad guys or just dance along the waves of the wind. There are many game-play elements which will allow players to do as they please, ranging from quick-time events, stealth models, environmental combats, or interesting dialogues between characters.  In fact, you’ll even get the opportunity to play as Peter Parker and live his “conventional” life, whereas Mary Jane Watson will also be a playable option is some of the most critical moments featured in the game. All in all, our Spidey senses tell us this game will be worth your time!
