Thus without keeping you on the edge of your seat for longer than required, here are six Xbox games which should captivate and intrigue all of your senses.

Fallout 4

It’s big, and it’s filled with gigantic versions of our current nightmares. In short, it’s Bethesda’s Fallout 4. This one-of-a-kind game is a natural evolution of the previous versions, following the journey or either Nate or Nora during a grim post-apocalyptic world. While multiple hours will seem wasted on an aimless exploration targeting the comprehensive map, you have the chance to meet lost synths, kids trapped in fridges, and other menacing creatures that are out to get you or anyone else –at least you know it’s not personal.

On a first glance, the game doesn’t seem entirely different than the others Bethesda has created. However, the immersive voice acting, the unbelievable graphics, and the multiple guns along with the chance to improve your companions create what we love about the game.  This new and improved formula does feature a couple of glitches, but nothing we can’t get over considering how much is going on in the game at all times. In fact, the imposing open world in combination with the customization options makes Fallout 4 everything a gamer can expect and more. Although the storyline can be considered an acquired taste, no spoilers involved, the side quests and hidden stories give you more time to feel part of the post-apocalyptic nightmare.

After a couple of minutes in your suburban and classic 1950s home, you find yourself and your family running for safety in one of Vault-Tec’s safe vault systems. Nonetheless, if Fallout 3, New Vegas or others have thought us anything, it’s that this advanced company is not as innocent as it may appear. If you’re new to the series, well, you’ll be in for a bit of a surprise –in fact, during the entire game. From there you can start to treat the wasteland as your playground, as the multitude of guns, possible characters, mutants, and other bugs and lizards are everywhere. Don’t feel too confident though; the wasteland is a desolate and dangerous place.

Another incredible addition to this already impressive game is the ability to build settlements, tiny post-apocalyptic homes, and even defenses which each community will need to survive. You can also exchange guns, hats, and other gear with your settlers –should you care about them enough. The crafting system put in place by Bethesda encourages excessive scavenging, and you can soon become a collector of scrap things, mostly. All in all, the option to improve settlements and to keep its residents safe provides players with hope, whereas the multiple game paths will appeal to different personalities and gameplay styles.

Similar to Fallout New Vegas and other, the creators of some of the best xbox games manage to create a game which is nothing short of the words 'addictive' and 'compulsive.' Similar to Oblivion or Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4 creates the moreish effect in which when you get hooked, it's likely you won’t emerge for weeks or maybe even months. After all, ‘war never changes.'

Battlefield 1

battlefield

Seeing the first trailer for this attention-captivating game was probably enough to send chills down your spine or make each strand of hair on your arms stand up in anticipation. Many gamers dream of better understanding the gruesome fight for survival felt during the First World War –and Battlefield 1 gives players precisely that. What follows is a game featuring adventure, the telltales of fear, action, along with individual tear-worthy storylines.

Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 did give us a taste of what was about to come, but no player could anticipate such an unblemished display of the ugliness and heartbreak of war. Featuring the story of numerous soldiers, some of which have lost their lives during the fight, the campaign focuses on the emotional and repugnant moments felt during the warfare experience. Although the primary storyline delivers a polished version of the suffering and anguish experienced during the war, the multiplayer version remains the highlight of this game. Between the massive tanks, the imposing zeppelins, the armored trains, the openness of the surrounding world, Battlefield has it all.

Gamers are most excited about the “Operations” mode –a 64-player conflict in which teams struggle to gain an advantage over their enemies, at times sending parts of buildings flying across the desolate streets. Even after years and years of the Battlefield series being alive, the WWI warfare scenario gives players an ominous yet refreshing point of view. The result is a game that is considered one of the best first-person shooters ever –especially in light of the expansive open-world of the multiplayer version.

Bioshock Infinite

bioshock

What can be said about Bioshock Infinite that hasn’t been said before? The game won 85 pre-release awards, and there is no surprise considering its outstanding combination of visual art design, storyline, along with the immersive setting. For those who are not familiar with the game, the motivation of the story hides behind actual historical events, some of which highlight the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, the concept of American exceptionalism, in addition to the modernism of the Occupy movement.

The game transports players to the year 1912, and follows the central character –a protagonist called Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton. What starts out as a quest to find a young woman under the name Elizabeth turns out to be a rescue story in which the two struggle to survive. The war between the Founders which control the city of Columbia and relentlessly aim to keep privileges solely for White Americans, and the Vox Populi, a group of rebels looking to restore power to the underclass of the city. Not long after the conflict breaks out, the protagonist learns that Elizabeth can manipulate the space-time continuum and create “tears.” Gamers will not only be mesmerized by the evolving story, but the graphics, art design, music and other factors work together to create a dream-like ambiance.

Controlling Booker DeWitt, players can choose between multiple weapons, some more gruesome than others, or clothing called Gear –which provides the character with a unique set of abilities and psychokinetic attributes. Unlike the previous Bioshock stories, Columbia gives prominence to an open world with dynamic combats and other exquisite elements. There is no surprise that the Bioshock Infinite is as one of the greatest video games of all time.

Assassin’s Creed

assassins creed

Assassin’s Creed elegantly portrays a centuries-old conflict brought on by the Assassins, who contest the Templar’s trial of achieving peace through control of humanity’s free will. The game is not a pure exploration of the surrounding world, nor of the side missions available. In fact, the series features an opulent and polished combination of real-world historical events and prominent figures with the surreal elements we’ve seen from the first game.

You may have caught on that we’re not speaking about one game in particular –that’s because each of them serves as a lesson in history, and each of them incorporates knowledge and gameplay styles we can all appreciate. The story begins with Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, an ancestor of Desmond Miles, a modern-day assassin who tries to run away from a predetermined life. Although the protagonist kicked off the Assassin's Creed franchise, the second game depicts Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a relatable character who becomes the cornerstone of the game, at least for a long time.

All in all, Assassin’s Creed is a story of struggle, revenge, and hope –featuring a multitude of characters gamers will come to love. There is more to the story than meets the eye, and there are complex and unique puzzles unheard of in other games. This quality not only helps immerse you in the story and appeal of the game, but it tests out your patience, skills, and knowledge. Don’t be surprised if by the end of the game you turn into a conspiracy hound. In particular, Assassin's Creed 2 is, by far, the most critically acclaimed game in the series, creating an elegant masterpiece which nearly squeezed blood from a stone. Requiescat en pace.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

elder scrolls V skyrim

Buckle up ladies and gentlemen; you’re about to spend the next weeks away from your loved ones with one of the best xbox games. Should you not be familiar with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you may be scratching your head wondering why that is –this single-player role-playing video game (RPG) features an expansive world which will take months to explore. Set approximately 200 years after the story we loved in Oblivion, Skyrim is an open world fictional province in which you, the player character, set out on a quest to defend the world from an all-powerful dragon called Alduin the World-Eater. These events were prophesized, meaning that you’ll need to complete side quests to develop your character and acquire the strength and dexterity required to defeat Alduin -as if it weren’t enough that you need to go against a badass dragon.

Although you can fast travel to each location you’ve discovered, it’s nearly unimaginable that players would completely neglect the immersive landscapes or the possibility of meeting prisoners, werewolves, and other characters along their merry way. Mesmerized by curiosity and the abundance of quests, most gamers postpone the main storyline for quite a while, especially those interested in the three downloadable content (DLC) add-ons -Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. Just adding to the excitement, in 2016 a special edition of Skyrim was released –which included a graphical remastering of the game, along with additional features such as modding abilities for console gaming.

For these reasons and more, there is no surprise that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sold over seven million games within the first week of its release, and with a staggering 30 million copies distributed across different platforms.

Dishonored 2

dishonored 2

Dishonored 2 utters a compelling story which takes place in the fictional location of Karnaca. Only after the witch named Delilah Copperspoon overthrows Empress Emily Kaldwin does the game truly begin –with players being able to carnage through their enemies by either playing as Emily or her father, Corvo Attano. The duo’s motivation is reclaiming the throne which is stolen from them, and the game is an impressive sequel to the 2012's Dishonored. Although bigger isn’t always better, this game proves that sometimes, this approach is worth the praise. The extended gameplay content, along with the ability to control the two well-liked characters, make it satisfying to sport the hidden powers of Corvo Attano and the brutality and quickness of Emily Kaldwin to slay your enemies.

What gives the game the allure it has is the graphic design, and the ability to either use vast supernatural powers or entirely forfeit them. Additionally, there is not one way to complete a mission or another, giving the game an elegant versatility. Dishonored 2 feels fresh and refined, and with brand new enemies and a serene seaside setting, the game is a hard temptation to resist. Similar to the first game’s open-ended mission, there are infinite possibilities and choices to be made -from gory and violent attacks to skillful stealthiness; Dishonored 2 is the gift that keeps giving.
